Returning to activity after an injury

A return is not the day the pain goes quiet. It is a series of smaller permissions: walking, then a faster walk, then part of training, and only then the old rhythm.

After an injury it is easy to wait until everything settles, then attempt the old training as if the pause never happened. The body remembers the pause. Tissue, balance, and confidence do not return on the same day.

A useful frame is simple. The day after the activity should be tolerable. The movement you do should be under control, not in a hurry. And you should trust it at least a little more than last week. If one of those three is missing, the step was probably too big.

Bring back one thing at a time. First time, then pace, then complexity. Running is not walking, and a game is not running in a straight line. If a doctor has limited a certain load, that limit stays, however good the day feels.

There is no honest timeline that fits everyone. This note cannot assess your injury. It can only remind you that a return is a series of decisions, not one brave day.

This is a general educational note. It does not diagnose and it does not replace an individual assessment or a doctor's advice.
